Holiday Excitement and Two New Cats
I love the holiday season!
There’s something about the getting ready that makes me feel good all over. It starts with sharing Thanksgiving with family and friends. And then I jump into decorating for Christmas and having fun times with friends. My tree covered with ornaments and lights, the mantle with Santa and his reindeer, my Santa collection spread throughout the house, and miniature nativity scenes set in their unique places all create the reasons why the holidays are such an extraordinary time of the year for me. You have to see my home to understand that I’m really into it. There’s nothing like the feeling I got when a 4-year-old walked in the front door and asked, “Are you Mrs. Santa Claus too?”
Something is a bit different this year
None of my beautiful vintage glass ornaments are on the tree because two new kitties, Topaz and Tux, are new to the picture and creating magic in the household. They’ve been super with all of the decorations, but I’m not going to take any chances!
A Season of Fun and Joy
I hope YOUR holiday season is full of fun and joy! And I hope that you and your family have many magical experiences!
Sweep Away Holiday Stress
Want a super easy way to do some holiday shopping? No matter who you are shopping for and how old they are, my animated video of the Daily Clean Your House Flow will help bring calm and ease to the special people in your life.
Help them sweep away stress and overwhelm and discover the magic of energetic balance!
Are You Getting Triggered?
Are You Getting Triggered? Are you searching for joy??
It has been a crazy roller coaster ride the last couple of weeks— for everyone. Lots of questions and emotions are jumping around inside of all of us. No matter who we wanted to win the election and how we feel about the results. Now on top of that, we have the holidays when lots of old family issues can get fired up.
You may be experiencing topsy-turvy emotions
You might be feeling:
- Anxious
- Distress
- Sadness
- Uneasiness
- Grief
- Worry
- Unhappiness
- Fear
- Frustration
- Anger
These emotions can trigger feelings of overwhelm for your body. Your body responds to feeling out of balance and ungrounded by creating symptoms.
What are your symptoms?
Have you been noticing shortness of breath, head pressure, loss of equilibrium, erratic sleep? How about increased sensitivity to others’ comments and opinions or close to tears? Or maybe you’re having indigestion, sadness, overall tiredness or just feeling on edge?
Your body is trying to get your attention!
If any of those symptoms are present, your body is trying to get your attention. It wants to be grounded, centered, and in a place of easiness. Are you ready to feel all that AND have your body bubble up with joy and happiness? It is possible even in the midst of whatever is creating your topsy-turvy roller coaster ride. The stuff that is triggering your upset may not go away, but your body can be a lot happier!
Easy Ways to Create Calm
Here are some easy self-help acupressure points to:
- Open breath
- Create calm
- Relieve anxiety
- Let go of fear
- Increase your vitality
See how easy it can be to help your body create new patterns.
- Hold upper arms by folding your arms across the chest
- Shift your fingers so you’re holding the outside edges of your shoulder blades (like giving yourself a great big hug)
- Hold your thumbs and index fingers
- With right hand, cup the sternum just below the collarboneAnd hold left fingers in a vertical pattern on your tummy
- With left hand, cup forehead so fingers are on the right side
And with right hand, cup back of head with fingers on left base of skull
Wishing you lots of ease and comfort! And a magnificent Thanksgiving!!
With gratitude for YOU being a part of my life!
Freaking Out
Is something freaking you out?
It’s the season! The trick is to find ways to get through the “freak out stage” whether the upset is a result of being in overwhelm, information that you just received and can’t wrap your brain around, feeling not listened to, or any number of other reasons.
The trick can easily become a treat. Your body doesn’t like being freaked out so it will easily make good changes when you try to correct the episode by bringing a special treat into the mix. It’s like being offered your most favorite and yummy chocolate or dessert and getting that “oh, my, I’m in heaven” result.
Instead of freaking out when an upset occurs, retrain your body. When you are in stress mode, your breath is often impacted. It becomes constricted and causes your lung and diaphragm capacity to be lessened. So it’s all about helping your body rediscover breath. Then the next step is to re-pattern your breathing, which will also create more fluid movement, even affecting mobility and flexibility. That’s where “the change has taken place” is experienced.
Treat Your Body
Here’s a super easy way (treat) to help your body let go of any unhappy experience and get back on an even keel.
- Give yourself a hug by crossing your arms and gently touching your upper arms. This will open up lung capacity.
- Move one hand to the base of your ribcage (keeping the other hand on the upper arm). This hold will help open up the diaphragm.
- Move the hand that is on the upper arm to the outside of your knee. That connects with helping ease of movement.
- Move the hand that is on the ribcage to the outside of the other knee. You’re now holding the outside of both knees. THAT is all about the re-patterning and helping your body accept the change.
Hope this helps you get through ANY “freaking out episode” you might be experiencing. Just know that it’s a moment in time and the trick is to help your body not take it on as “real.”
Wishing you a super Halloween! And hoping that the season is all about freaking out because of the haunted house, not because of an upset or stress!
Pay Attention to Your Body’s Signals
Pain is no fun!
Pain is a signal that your body is trying hard to get your attention and get a message to you. Your body is saying, “I’m out of sync and it’s affecting how well I can function.” No matter what has created the pain and discomfort and regardless of where you are experiencing the pain, the flow of energy is blocked. Your body is in a state of imbalance and confusion, and the pain will not allow it to easily do all it needs to do to be a healthy and vibrant being. Pay attention to your body’s signals.
If you’re experiencing pain, tightness or tension, is it affecting what you can do? Are you in denial and trying to do most everything that is on that long list of work and household chores? Have you become a master of ignoring what your body is telling you?
Blocked energy is what creates your symptoms, issues, or problems that are getting in the way of doing what you want to and need to do. By the way, instead of “problems,” I like using the word “projects.” Projects are more fun to work with and have a beginning and an end!
Move Your Energy to Shift Away from Pain
Are you aware that you can help move that blocked energy that is creating the pain and make a difference in how you feel? All it takes is recognizing that your body is sending a message, listening to that message, and then helping your body let go of the blocked energy. You can help that project get corrected! It’s all about having a self-care program that is easy to learn, easy to do and easy to get around to doing.
When you and your body experience energetic balance, you will more readily recognize what a state of balance is for your body. And, on the other side of the coin, you will realize when your body needs something more to get to the place of pain-free and healing.
Doing a daily series of self-help acupressure flows can assist your body in having a firm foundation. Consider doing the Daily Clean Your House Flow to give you that space that allows improved energy flow, as well as improved oxygenation and circulation. It will also help you recognize the signals your body wants you to hear.
Gaining Insight
Over the last few months, I have come to the realization that I was ignoring what my body was trying to tell me. I do my Daily Clean Your House Flow several times a day. Plus I consistently do many other flows and energy points to help my body be better prepared for what I’m going to ask it to do, as well as better prepared for whatever might come at it. By the way, when I’m doing my energy work, I tell my body, “I like you being in flow and this is how we’re doing it together.” It’s all about being a partner with your body.
I honestly thought I was in touch with what my body was telling me. I was in pain from an injury I received last year as the result of an automobile accident. I could sometimes manage the pain with my self-help Jin Shin Jyutsu, and I was receiving excellent care from my providers.
I did not realize that I needed something extra and different to move me out of the pain zone. Sometimes we can’t fix it all by ourselves. Sometimes we need care that is more extensive than we can provide to ourselves. The pain I experienced affected my clarity and my ability to pick up on the information my body was giving me.
I finally got out of my own way. I listened to my body. I increased my awareness of what I needed. I know now that I’m on the way to healing.
Pain is a Journey of Discovery
Pain is a magnet that can pull you off center. It can take you off your true path. Pain can create stress and confusion in your entire system. Pain has an ability to compromise your health, focus and clarity, productivity, and your ability to manage emotions.
What Happens When Pain Becomes Chronic?
As stated by WebMD at http://www.webmd.com/pain-management/guide/understanding-pain-management-chronic-pain
“About 100 million Americans suffer from chronic pain, defined as pain that lasts longer than six months. Chronic pain can be mild or excruciating, episodic or continuous, merely inconvenient or totally incapacitating.”
“The emotional toll of chronic pain also can make pain worse. Anxiety, stress, depression, anger, and fatigue interact in complex ways with chronic pain and may decrease the body’s production of natural painkillers; moreover, such negative feelings may increase the level of substances that amplify sensations of pain, causing a vicious cycle of pain for the person. Even the body’s most basic defenses may be compromised: There is considerable evidence that unrelenting pain can suppress the immune system.”
“The symptoms of chronic pain include:
- Mild to severe pain that does not go away
- Pain that may be described as shooting burning, aching, or electrical
- Feeling of discomfort, soreness, tightness, or stiffness.”
“Pain is not a symptom that exists alone. Other problems associated with pain can include:
Fatigue
- Sleeplessness
- Withdrawal from activity and increased need to rest
- Weakened immune system
- Changes in mood including hopelessness, fear, depression, irritability, anxiety, and stress

Let Go of Back Pain
Help Your Body Let Go of Back Pain
Back pain is absolutely no fun! Are you discovering that there are activities you don’t get around to doing because your back hurts? If that is the case, it’s time to help your body be happier and less reactive.
The Cost of Back Pain is Huge
In the United States, the impact of back pain can be measured not only in discomfort but dollars, time lost, decreased productivity and on-the-job performance.
“The prevalence of pain has a tremendous impact on business, with a recent report by the Institute of Medicine indicating that the annual value of lost productivity in 2010 dollars ranged between $297.4 billion to 335.5 billion. The value of lost productivity is based on three estimates: days of work missed (ranging from $11.6 to $12.7 billion); hours of work lost (from $95.2 to $96.5 billion); and lower wages (from $190.6 billion to $226.3 billion).(1)”

The economic, physical and psychological impact of back pain is enormous as shown on paindoctor.com.
“Beyond the impact of the sheer number of people who suffer from back pain every year, the burden on the healthcare system is enormous. A study by researchers at the Duke University Medical Center found that patients with back pain spend $90 billion a year on medical expenses, with over $26 billion of that total spent directly on back pain-related medical care.”
“While specific figures are difficult to come by in the United States, a review of available data in the Medline database found the following indirect costs associated with back pain between 1996 and 2001:
- Workers missed 149 million days of work due to low back pain alone, as compared to 101 million days missed due to a work-related injury.
- Chronic low back pain cost approximately $1,230 for each man and $773 for each woman in lost work days, with an annual loss of productivity total of $28 billion.
- The reported average number of days of work disability due to back pain ranges, from 75 for the first incidence to 337 days of total compensated missed work days.”

“Health economists from Johns Hopkins University writing in The Journal of Pain reported the annual cost of chronic pain is as high as $635 billion a year, which is more than the yearly costs for cancer, heart disease, and diabetes.”
American Pain Society. “Chronic pain costs U.S. up to $635 billion, study shows.” ScienceDaily. ScienceDaily, 11 September 2012. www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2012/09/120911091100.htm.
Scary Costs of Pain
If those numbers don’t scare you, think about how back pain interferes with your happiness.
A Cooperative Back
I don’t know about you, but if my desire to hike, garden or exercise is being usurped by a body project, it’s pretty likely that I’ll end up in a funk. I want my body to cooperate so I can do whatever I want to do! If you are staring at a long to-do list and have a cantankerous back ache, it might be affecting your fun activities as well as getting in the way of taking care of computer projects or office work. For most of us, if we can’t get something accomplished because our body is talking, we can be pretty hard on ourselves. And that makes everything worse. The mental and emotional states of feeding the physical imbalance and everything gets even more exacerbated.
Chronic, Acute or Nagging Back Pain
Whether you are experiencing chronic or acute pain or whether you have a persnickety nagging project that talks to you once in a while, your body is getting a message to you that it is time to ease the tension, tightness and imbalance.
When your back is in a state of blocked energy, your sense of well-being can be impacted because your core balance has gone awry. Low back connects to foundation and sense of safety and security. Your mid-back connects to breathe and natural transitions that allow for easy transformations. And the upper back is often connected to “too much on your plate” and confusion in the system. Any of that sound familiar to you?
You Are Now Entering the State of Comfort and Ease
The long and short of it is that our backs need to be in a state of comfort and ease so we can “put our backs into it” and easily do what we want to do and accomplish what we set out to do. The key is to have the phrase “put my back into it” be a positive statement and that we have a positive mindset. The body will sense any negative. For you to be fully in the present and a positive state, there are some simple energy points you can hold to help you move through your day.
Practice Makes Perfect with The Daily Clean Your House Flow
Consider doing the Daily Clean Your House Flow as your daily practice. It helps create a firm foundation that prepares our bodies for what we are going to ask them to do and prepares them for what might come at them, even if it is totally unexpected.
Then the following energy tips will be that much better and faster received by the body. The changes you want to take place will more easily happen so you can do all you want to do.
Back Pain Relief is at Your Fingertips
Holding these energy balance points will bring smooth movement and flow and help release any back and neck tension:
- Right hand – cup back of neck with fingers on the left side
- Left hand – hold fingers on the coccyx (base of spine)
- Left hand – hold fingers on outside of left knee
And holding these points will connect with breath and easy transition:
- Right hand – hold fingers on left elbow
- Left hand – hold fingers on right elbow
- Left hand – move fingers to base of right ribcage
- Left hand – move fingers to outside of left knee
Wishing you easy movement so you can have fun AND get things done! Let me know what transpires!

Changing Patterns
I love being around young children. One reason is that I’ve never grown up, and I love to play! Could also be because they can so quickly go from one project to another and just have fun! They can change patterns with ease.
Another reason is that I love how they so easily step into whatever they notice is making a positive difference in their lives and make sure they keep on doing it. I see that in every family and every classroom that starts using the Daily Clean Your House Flow™.
Ask young folks what they’re noticing different in their lives and you’ll get answers!
When I was in Minnesota visiting family, I showed my two great nieces the Daily Clean Your House Flow animated video. The 7-year-old was thrilled! Presley loved the video itself and with a great big smile said, “Aunt Deb, I’m feeling this buzzy happening.” Morgan, the 9-year-old was introduced to self-help acupressure through her mom, and grandma saw that it was a fun way to do her energy work. And she loved the book I’ve written.
The next day, Morgan shared what she had learned with her teacher, and he invited her to teach her classmates. They sat around in a circle, and she walked them through the Daily Flow. The next day the same scenario took place. That happened to be the day of standardized testing. The teacher noticed something different in the room. His students were calm, focused and not in angst over the test. And they did better than ever before.
Show and Tell
Mr. Weiss asked Morgan whether Aunt Deb would be able to come to the classroom, show the video and teach them about self-care. Well, of course, I’m going to show up for that and luckily there was one more day before I had to leave.
Mr. Weiss and I had a great conversation before the students filed into the classroom. He said that it was noticeable how centered the kids were for the test the day before. And how the Daily Flow had helped with calming and breathing.
Meet the Author
The 4th graders were thrilled that a “real author” was in their classroom, and they had lots of questions about writing a book. They, of course, were all over the animated video. I had to tell them I wasn’t the illustrator! But we spent time talking about how the video came about. And they loved how much fun it was to do the Daily Flow to the video.
And then came the questions about acupressure and what they can do for themselves. Keep in mind that this group of kids were never previously introduced to acupressure or energy balancing. They did not know about acupuncture so I couldn’t make a comparison. So I had lots of fun teaching and sharing. I loved that the kids realized that THEY can make changes happen. Changing patterns is easy when you know how. Questions revolved around aches and pain, studying and tests, doing better in sports and activities.
In the end, I said, “So you’ve now done the Daily Clean Your House Flow three days in a row. I’m getting that many of you plan to continue doing the Daily Flow. Right??? So what change have you seen that makes you WANT to do the Daily Clean Your House Flow?”
What Kids Say
Their responses brought smiles to my face:
- One girl said, “I slept last night. That is different.”
- Another said, “My brother and I are getting along. Now that’s crazy.”
- And a young man said, “I don’t like tests, and I never do good. Yesterday I did good on the test.”
Now, really? Nine-year-olds not sleeping? Nine-year-olds stressed over studying and tests? Kids recognizing that a relationship had changed in three days? That had to be a significant shift for it to be aware of it.

Childhood Memories Yank the Heartstrings
Memories Live in Our Hearts
Childhood memories and mementos. We never know what items and memories from our past will be useful for keeping track of and keeping close to our heart. Some will stand out as truly significant and can when we recognize their profound effect on our well-being. On the other hand, we may find out that what we thought was important is something that bogged us down and got in our way of moving forward.
I discovered in my journey down memory lane that there were a few items and recollections that I needed to let go. But I’m blessed to say that the vast majority were happy and pleasant, and I see them as important to hold in my heart.
Childhood Memories and Mementos Don’t Just Live in Boxes; They Fill Our Hearts
My visit with my Minnesota family is continuing to pull on my heart strings even when I’m back at home. The mementos that I brought back with me are probably a big part of that!
But there is one particular item that I opted not to bring home with me that darn near brought me to tears. When I opened one of the boxes that my mom had hauled down from the attic, I discovered that it was full of dolls and stuffed animals, some of which were in pretty bad shape. It was sad to let them go when I had just rediscovered them. But my first baby doll was a keeper. Her face and eyes were even perfect. I set her aside to so I could pack her into a box for shipping. But I had a rude awakening. When I picked her up to wrap her for packing, she started falling apart in my hands.
Acupressure points to help with transition
Do you have anything you are ready to let go of but you could use some assistance in doing so? Here are a few energy balance points that can help you create new patterns and new ways of doing and being.
- Hold little fingers
- Cup right hand over left shoulder,
Hold left hand at left groin area
Then sit on left hand (still holding shoulder) - Cup left hand over right shoulder
Hold right hand at right groin area
Then sit on right hand (still holding shoulder)
To make that transition an easier one by releasing the tension around the old pattern (e.g., throat tension and jaw tightness, “holding” the breath)
- Right hand – cup sternum directly below clavicle
- Left hand – hold fingertips in a vertical pattern below the navel
Enjoy your journey down memory lane!
Going Down Memory Lane
Life is made up of memories. In fact, it can be said that what we remember creates our lives. From the moment we start remembering our experiences our brains create memory pools that get accessed when we revisit information, behaviors, activities, and especially when we get reconnected to people from our past.
Connecting with the past
I am accessing those pools of memories this week! I’m visiting my hometown in Minnesota and spending time with my mom, my siblings, and their families. Just being with them easily brings up “do you remember this?” conversations and going down memory lane. I’m sure each and every one of us has that happen when we’re with family and friends we haven’t seen for a while.
This time around Mom brought out boxes of old stuff that my sister and I needed to go through. I was blown away by the stories that pictures, dolls, stuffed animals, books, and keepsakes brought up. We had fun sharing our memories!
Creating memories
And then there are the fun times with my grand nieces and nephews ranging in age from 5 to 9. I’m a big kid at heart, so my suitcase had all sorts of projects to do with them. I have to admit that I had an ulterior motive! I wanted my time with them to be memorable, so when I talk to them on the phone, they know who I am and how important they are to me.
Creating the desire to be healthy
A big part of that for me is introducing them to energy work and especially to self-help acupressure. I want them to know how easy it is for them to feel healthy, productive and happy. So I’m teaching them the Daily Clean Your House Flow and showing them how to feel good. They love the Daily Clean Your House Flow animated video, and that puts a smile on my face. I know that we have created some great memories, especially when the 6-year-old says to her mom, “I love how Aunt Deb spoils me. I’m going to do the Daily Flow now.”
