The Shift I Care About

September 03, 20261 min read

What I Noticed in the Room on Wednesday

Wednesday night, a group gathered for the first session of Awaken Your Energy: Step into Fall with Balance. Within twenty minutes, something shifted. Shoulders dropped. Breaths deepened.

Someone said, "I didn't realize how loud my body was being until I stopped to listen."

That is the whole thing, right there.

I have been teaching Jin Shin Jyutsu for years, but something about this group made me see it fresh. Maybe it was the seasonal shift. Maybe it was the shared uncertainty of what fall will ask of us. Or maybe it was simply that everyone in the room was ready to stop overriding their own signals and start reading them instead.

We worked with simple energy balance points. Fingers. Toes. The spaces where tension pools when the body is trying to say something the mind has not yet caught. And what struck me was not how complicated the work is. It is how simple. How close. How much the body wants to be understood.

One woman described her neck as a clenched fist she had been ignoring for months. Another said his lower back felt like storage for every conversation he had not finished. These are not metaphors. They are data. The body speaks in location and sensation, and when someone learns even a few of its reference points, the conversation changes.

What I saw was people moving from confusion to curiosity. From "what is wrong with me" to "what is my body trying to tell me." That is the shift I care about. That is the literacy.

Balance and harmony,
Deborah
